I have not blogged in a while because perfectionism has struck and made it so everything I start to write ends up sounding silly, but this is an easy article! If you have not seen the preview, it is a great movie, and you can check it out here!
I took my 10-year-old son to this movie. He and his father both wanted to go, but in the end he won, because Dad can go alone later. 🙂 He has ADHD and Asperger’s/Autism. We had to arrive early and wait for the movie to start and it was hard. He got to stay up late, and was extremely wired after the event, but he has already told me that he is going to the next movie! He loved it! He cannot wait for the next movie and for a blissful once in a lifetime type event he sat almost silently through the movie, completely enthralled. There is a part where my sweet, sensitive little boy cried a bit, but overall he was in love with the action, the drama, and the story. (In some parts he was telling me the story from the comic books and cartoons!)
I am not a comic book or even really a Marvel fan, although these movies are quickly converting me. This movie had plenty of action, but even more story, which appealed to the girly girl in me. I loved learning more about the characters and their humanity.
This movie also took on some fairly adult themes. Themes such as war, humanity and whether we deserve to continue trying, and the nature of freedom. I was impressed with how well they handled the conversations and that my kid was even able to articulate some of that after we saw the movie. We had a great discussion on the 30 minute drive home about choices, good and evil, and sacrifice. That alone makes this movie worth seeing.
The action did not disappoint, the characters were amazing. as usual, and fun to see, the story was great, and there were a lot of topics that led to thought and later to discussion. Some went over my son’s head, but I look forward to discussing the flirting and male dominance later. I will be seeing this movie again, we will buy it when it comes out, and I will be sending my husband to the theater to watch it on his own tomorrow! I look forward to watching it again and again as a family. It will be joining our collection, and someday we will have an Avenger’s movie marathon.
I love that Disney has acquired Marvel and that they are bringing the same timeless topics and discussions to comic books that they have brought to fairy tales! I love that they are so detail oriented, and the storytelling truly is masterful. I too cannot wait for the next movie, nor the movies that are to come. I am so happy to have something that I can share with my son that is both adult and age appropriate. I have been a Disney Princess fan forever, and would love to become a Disney Princess, even for just a day. Now I am a Marvel Fan, and my boys couldn’t be happier!
