Newman’s Own Organics is the organic sister company of Newman’s Own. I have loved Newman’s Own products for quite a while, and was delighted to try Newman’s Own Organics. The company is delightful to work with. Their representatives are friendly and super helpful, and they knew which products my gluten free family could enjoy. We got a huge box of products, and they have promised to send my readers their own huge box to test and rave about, as I am sure you will. We loved their selection of dried fruits and prefer them over many of our traditional buys. Their craisins were sweet, but not sugary. We enjoyed a fancy selection of chocolates, that my dairy allergic husband couldn’t even resist, and their popcorn was downed by my son. We also got to test out their olive oil, some great mints (we like the tinned variety best), and organic teas. Every product is of the highest quality and grade, and we loved them all. I will be watching for their products in my stores, and they are one of my preferred labels when shopping.
Some fun facts about Newman’s Own Organics (taken from their website www.newmansownorganics.com):
“Newman’s Own Organics was established as a division of Newman’s Own in 1993, and became a separate company in late 2001. Paul Newman has given over $200 million to thousands of charities worldwide since 1982.
Certified organic by Oregon Tilth. Ingredients have been grown on farms that have not used artificial fertilizers or pesticides for three years or more. The farms and processors have been certified by an independent third party. Kosher certification by Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, 333 Seventh Avenue, New York.
Great tasting products that happen to be organic is the slogan of Newman’s Own Organics: The Second Generation. Headed by Paul Newman’s daughter, Nell Newman the company is developing products from certified organic ingredients. All the products are packaged in a distinctive, eye-catching way and feature an amusing photo of an American Gothic “Pa” Newman and daughter Nell plus a fanciful story.
“We want to offer organic food products with wide consumer appeal,” says Nell. “We feel that people want to know more about the food they eat, not just how much fat or cholesterol a product contains. How ingredients are grown and processed on the way to their grocers’ shelf is becoming more important to today’s consumer. Once people see how much organic foods have improved since the early days of packaged `health’ foods, we hope they’ll try other organic food products.”
“We focus on the kinds of products we loved as kids, but take them one step further by using the highest quality of available organic ingredients. Our first product, organic pretzels, fast became the top seller in the natural food industry, and each addition to the line has been successful.”
Nell’s love of chocolate was the deciding factor in choosing organic chocolate bars for the second product.
“I was also drawn to this project because growing the cacao in this ancient way meant that no rainforests would need to be destroyed. We want to encourage this method by supporting the farmers economically,” says Nell.”
I love knowing that my food is going to be nutritious and benefit my family, and that the investment and time I put into purchasing and preparing the food will result in greater health and well-being for all of us.
