I was given two tickets to the preview of Inside Out in exchange for my honest evaluation. As always, the opinions expressed here are 100% my own. (or at least my families).

Inside Out Characters

My 10 year old son said he has the emotion crazy in his head. This sums up how Inside Out works. It opens up conversations about what kids are thinking. I loved the way Inside Out brought a difficult concept like emotions into a context that children could understand. My autistic son talks about his emotions, which are difficult for him to express. He looks at what emotions are in-charge in his heads and we work at keeping them calm. We talked about how his “Headquarters” is electrified and the medication he takes helps to bring the energy down so his emotions can work better. Inside Out helped to make this conversation possible.

As a movie it was really well written and had enough jokes for the adults. It made you think and touched your emotions. (my son was worried about the characters) I want my wife to see it so she can understand why I want to get her a Sadness plushy.

Natalie’s Response:

I think Sadness runs my head, as my family has pretty much universally agreed. It isn’t my favorite idea, but it has helped my son to understand this, so I love the movie without having seen it.

We are on inclement weather warning, which means temperatures are soaring over 110 degrees hear in Las Vegas. We will not be playing outside, and since my son just got stitches in his leg from a bizarre fall in his bathroom, we will not be swimming. It is time for cool, indoors activities, and movies are one of our favorites. They may go check out another movie, but I am looking forward to seeing Inside Out, and maybe understanding more about what is going on inside my own head.

I am a wife, mother and blogger. I love to share what I learn and am constantly learning. My family lives with an Aspergers child, chronic illness and constant financial issues. I blog about this and ways to make life fun and fulfilling in spite of it all. I also blog with Sublime Media Connections, Kate and Kaboodle and several other amazing blog teams. I love what I do, but I am human and often make mistakes, which is why my motto is "muddling through".
