Blog Friendly PR

I started blogging as a way to vent my emotions about a situation I couldn’t control. I was disabled and sick a lot, and had lost most of my friends as the illness lingered and traditional friendships grew harder to keep up. I spent a lot of time in bed and in hospitals, and writing gave me an outlet. I was amazed to find a community of women, some like me, some home with kids, and some who had made blogging into a business. Mostly I was amazed to find a community of friends. I joined groups like Blog Friendly PR to learn more about blogging and engage with other bloggers, and found a passion and an enterprise that I love. Blog Friendly PR’s blogger outreach taught me how to create content that was more user-friendly, and less like a journal. I found ways to offer my readers contests and...

So I had Brain Surgery

I believe in miracles. I went to my endocrinologist, and he had a new Physicians Assistant. She had worked for a brilliant neurosurgeon who happens to practice in Las Vegas and treats a condition called Chiari Malformations. She looked at my history, and thought it would be worth a call to her old boss to see if my set of odd symptoms fit into this chiari pattern, which they do. Two days later, I was in front of the neurosurgeon. Two days after that I had the advanced and very technical MRI that showed significant pressure increases in my brain and a congenital brain defect called hypoplastic posterior fossa that put pressure on many parts of my brain and may have had a key role in my pituitary gland failing. At this point, the surgeon, Dr. Seiff, decided that I was a candidate for this surgery. His first question was...

Getting Myself Organized

I have big plans for this year. I have found that I adore blogging, and have made several great associations that will help me become a better blogger. I also have made some agreements to guest blog at other sites to improve my skills and allow me to focus on topics that I am passionate about. I am super excited to blog daily, and grow my knowledge and abilities this year as a blogger. Step one will be putting together a work station. I need a desk with great lighting. Nora lighting has some great desk lamp options that I love, and I will have to find or build a small desk with lots of cubbies and drawers to hold all my supplies. It should be a fun project. I just have two problems. One I have to stay healthy, and so does my family, which most days is okay,...

Criticism

Yesterday I received a rating of my blogs from one of the groups I am affiliated with. I was at the bottom of their tier. At first I was a little stressed and worried about that. Then I realized something crucial. I have only been blogging for about 6 months, and then only with the intent to blog as a “job” for the last month or so. I’d say I’m doing pretty good for my first month as a “real” blogger. There is a lot to figure out. A whole language with its own set of abbreviations like SEO, and KLOUT and such. I am happy with where my blog is, and excited to see it grow. I generally have a hard time with criticism, mostly because I take it out of context, or blame myself for not being “good” enough. I am not doing that here. This is something...
