Yesterday I received a rating of my blogs from one of the groups I am affiliated with. I was at the bottom of their tier. At first I was a little stressed and worried about that. Then I realized something crucial. I have only been blogging for about 6 months, and then only with the intent to blog as a “job” for the last month or so. I’d say I’m doing pretty good for my first month as a “real” blogger. There is a lot to figure out. A whole language with its own set of abbreviations like SEO, and KLOUT and such. I am happy with where my blog is, and excited to see it grow.

I generally have a hard time with criticism, mostly because I take it out of context, or blame myself for not being “good” enough. I am not doing that here. This is something I enjoy, and if I continue to enjoy it, I will see the results I am hoping for. I have already gotten more out of blogging than I ever expected, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds. I didn’t know I liked to write, and I didn’t know there was a world of friendly, happy people that connect online through blogging, and support each others attempts to raise families and work, and do all those things that make modern life as crazy as it is. Thank you to everyone who has helped, supported, and yes, even criticized. I am happy to be here.

I am a wife, mother and blogger. I love to share what I learn and am constantly learning. My family lives with an Aspergers child, chronic illness and constant financial issues. I blog about this and ways to make life fun and fulfilling in spite of it all. I also blog with Sublime Media Connections, Kate and Kaboodle and several other amazing blog teams. I love what I do, but I am human and often make mistakes, which is why my motto is "muddling through".

  1. Just keep blogging on! It’s your blog, do with it what you want to do, and until someone comes to you wanting to work with you should you be more mindful of what they have to say.

  2. 6 months isn’t long at all. You’ll learn and improve as you go, and I’m sure your ratings will keep getting higher! 🙂

  3. I know how you feel. I wish I could update my blog more, but daily things get in the way. I always feel that I should be doing more for my affiliates, and even cringe when I see an email update from them. XD I think you are doing a great job, keep up the good work. =]

  4. You are doing great. There is only so much one can do in a day. I have been blogging about 6 months too and work full time so find it tough but I love doing it. There is so much out there to learn that it will all come with time for sure.

  5. You are doing great! I just got into all this about 6 months ago myself. Mostly I just enter giveaways when I have time b/c I work full time. When I do get on my blog, I don’t know what to write about either! I’m sure it will come with time – it is ALOT to figure out!

  6. i personally think ur doing amazing for only have been blogging for that long! i know that once time goes on ur gunna end up way up there!!! dont stress ur doing a fantastic job and you’ll be sky high in no time! keep it up and congrats on your process so far!

  7. Those who don’t blog, think its easy-but it isn’t. It’s fun, hectic, stressful and you can meet some amazing people. Your doing great, only listen to the constructive criticism and do what you can to make your blog what you can and know it will be!
    Good luck;)

  8. For only being out here 6 months you are doing great. I think its a hard and brave thing to admit its hard to take critiscism

  9. Don’t take it to heart! You have a wonderful outlook. Look at how far you have come in six months and think of how far you will be in another six. You have readers. Good luck!

  10. Good for you only six months — good for you. Always look at the positives and keep working at it!!! Well done!

  11. I’ve never been able to deal with criticism well, so good for you for being so open with all of this! I think you’re doing just fine. I am so impressed by the bloggers I read because I know it takes a lot of work and dedication. Stay awesome!

  12. my mother said sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me keep your chin up and what doesnt break you makes you stronger 🙂

  13. I think you are doing awesome. I didn’t realize you had only been blogging for 6 months! If I every got really serious about blogging. I could only HOPE to be as far as you have come in 6 months. Keep up the good work!

  14. Looks to me like you’re doing a great job. I still don’t have a clue how to do anything with my blog. Good for you.

  15. I’m new at blogging too and I can totally relate. It’s like learning a new language! I still am not sure what SEO is. Just tweaking the darn thing can drive anyone nuts. I think you should get 5 stars just for trying! Visit me at http://afixerupper.com

  16. We all hate criticism when we put our heart and soul into accomplishing something. Try to see it as guidance for growing your baby into an even more awesome blog!

  17. I always keep in mind that all that really matters is that you enjoy yourself. Nothing anyone else says really matters.
You are doing great! Just keep enjoying yourself.

  18. Keep up the good work! I blog only to keep family and friends who live far away in the loop of our lives. I’ve thought about taking my blog to a different level, but like you, I take criticism way too personal and wouldn’t deal well with it.

  19. Don’t get discouraged! I think you are doing great. As you said when you enjoy what you do then good results will come. Best wishes!

  20. You Go Girl!!! My mom used to tell me that you can be in a room with 100 people and 99 of them give you a sincere genuine compliment and only 1 has something unflattering to say, no matter how small such as “your hair looked better yesterday”. That’s all you hear and not all the other 99 positives! You ARE doing great!!! 🙂

  21. DO what makes you HAPPY. Your blog is great, ive been browsing through the pages 😀 No need to stress out

  22. Since blogs are a form of expression, there’s not a “right” or “wrong” way to do them – aside from obvious things like a lack of proofreading, malware plugins, etc., most criticism is just one person’s opinion – there’s just as likely another person out there who has the opposite opinion! So while it can be helpful to take advice from constructive criticism, I wouldn’t take it too personally – the right people will find you with time!

    1. Thank you,
It is a work in progress, and needs a tune-up that I have to wait until June for, but I love it, and that’s what is most important.

  23. You go girl!! I have just started blogging in April. It can be so confusing. There is still so very much for me to learn, but I accept the challenge! I am like you on the criticism though. I feel that no one is looking at my blog because they don’t like me. LOL They don’t even know me. Right now my blog consist of primarily items of the day from my PartlyLite business. I have to learn to add more content, personal content I guess to draw interest. 🙂 BTW – I enjoy your blog very much <3

    1. Thank You,

It is hard to accept criticism, and realize that you are still just growing and not doing something “wrong”. I’m sure your blog will grow too. I taught piano and violin for a long time, and it took me about a year to really get the base I needed. I am going to give my blog at least that long. It’s worth the effort.
