Disclosure: We received two tickets to the Disney/Marvel Premier of Ant-Man in exchange for our honest review. As always, opinions expressed on this blog are my own, or that of my husband and kid.

My wife brought me because I am a huge nerd that has read comics for a long time. I know what is going on and I get a lot of the references that she may miss. My wife is a good female presence and a bit of a nerd herself. Now we have a 10-year-old that has alternated attending with me or my wife to some of the movies and helped to review them. He is autistic, gifted, ADHD, and all sorts of a nerd himself. He tells us where the scary parts are and what parts are funny to a 10-year-old boy, which are weird spots. We love being able to attend and review movies together. We frequently re-watch our favorites to find new connections and surprises, this is an amazingly fun activity that we have shared as a family since we were first married.

The movie itself was well blended into the Marvel Universe. Those geeks out there will enjoy all the connections to the other movies and how well the idea of Ant-Man seems to fit. The movie still stands by itself as a story and has a great cast. Our favorite is the little girl who will make you smile every time you see her. The villain could have been given more background and time, but we were glad to see Ant-Man do his thing. My wife was creeped out a bit by the ants, so you know the graphics were great! I know we are all wondering why Ant-Man, but we can see this movie as just another chapter in what we hope will be a long story of Marvel’s grand arc. Small parts are good when we have to wait so long between so many big movies.

Natalie Here:

I really enjoyed the movie. It was wonderful to have a date night and have my husband’s take on this movie, as Antman is a lesser known character in the Marvel Universe to me.  Unfortunately I had some medical stuff and missed some of the end, so I will have to wait to enjoy that with my son, perhaps I will get to a second review with his perspective.  Otherwise, the movie was great! I would like to thank Karen, our Preview coordinator. She always does a great job, and works hard to accommodate all the special needs of her reviewers.

One thing I continue to love about Marvel and Disney is the attention to detail. You can take a comic/Marvel buff like my spouse and he can enjoy the movie, while a child can take equal enjoyment with little understanding of the overall story and some of the links. I can have a basic knowledge, catch some of the references and still love the movie for yet other qualities. I really enjoyed the character of Hope, and am excited for her continuing role almost as much as Ant-man’s. This is yet another fun superhero movie that we will be adding to our collection to review and enjoy, and it builds suspense for what will be an amazing third Avenger’s movie.

I am a wife, mother and blogger. I love to share what I learn and am constantly learning. My family lives with an Aspergers child, chronic illness and constant financial issues. I blog about this and ways to make life fun and fulfilling in spite of it all. I also blog with Sublime Media Connections, Kate and Kaboodle and several other amazing blog teams. I love what I do, but I am human and often make mistakes, which is why my motto is "muddling through".
