Welcome to the It’s Raining Money Giveaway! Sponsored by Rather-Be-Shopping.com Since 2001, Rather-Be-Shopping.com has been helping consumers save money with coupon codes to over 900 retailers. They also have a brand new free iPhone app that allows users to save with mobile in-store coupons by displaying the coupon directly on the phone at checkout. Cashier just scans your phone and you collect your savings. Popular retailers offering coupons include Lands’ End, Old Navy, Crate & Barrel, Home Depot, Kohl’s, American Eagle Outfitters, and Walmart. Imagine not having to carry around a binder full of coupons, but having them available on your phone whenever you’re ready to buy. I love couponing, but I always forget my coupons, and it’s hard to coupon when your family has allergies and eats a special diet. You’ll still need a binder for some steals, but this can save you space and time. 😉 Organized by...

Closed: Udderly Smooth Gift Basket Giveaway

WELCOME TO OUR GREAT UDDERLY SMOOTH GIFT BASKET GIVE AWAY! My son has sensitive skin, as do most of my nieces and nephews. This is one of our favorite products as it is gentle on skin and can handle the toughest cases of dry skin and even diaper rash. It is definitely a product a would recommend and one that we have used. I will be working on my heels for sandal season, and my son will appreciate the extra protection for his skin as we will be swimming a lot this spring and summer. I love spring time, but it can certainly cause a lot of preparation behind the scenes on legs and body in order to get your legs and arms ready for their new exposure to shorts and tee shirts! Don’t forget it is also flip flop season which means time to take care of your dry...

Blog Friendly PR

I started blogging as a way to vent my emotions about a situation I couldn’t control. I was disabled and sick a lot, and had lost most of my friends as the illness lingered and traditional friendships grew harder to keep up. I spent a lot of time in bed and in hospitals, and writing gave me an outlet. I was amazed to find a community of women, some like me, some home with kids, and some who had made blogging into a business. Mostly I was amazed to find a community of friends. I joined groups like Blog Friendly PR to learn more about blogging and engage with other bloggers, and found a passion and an enterprise that I love. Blog Friendly PR’s blogger outreach taught me how to create content that was more user-friendly, and less like a journal. I found ways to offer my readers contests and...

Friday Night Fun!

My goal is to blog daily, but I’m still working on that. We’ve had a rough marriage with a pattern of medical and then financial difficulties. I am very hopeful that we are starting to see the light at the end of that tunnel, and am trying to focus on what life will be like when that is different. First we want to adopt. Infants, a sibling group, slightly older children, we really aren’t picky. What we are is broke. 🙂 So we are saving and budgeting and working extra hard to not incur unnecessary expenses. My husband tutors most days of the week, and already has a summer job lined up. I am budgeting, meal planning, and working to create a blog and media business. I love blogging, and writing, so maybe I’ll freelance. There are lots of opportunities out there. If I get a lot better, then I...

Book Review Edenbrooke

Edenbrooke is a delightful Jane Austen era novel. I received an advanced copy, and must admit, I ignored it for months. I love Jane Austen books, and enjoy all the romance, decorum, and manners found in that era and in the writing from that era. This book did not disappoint. It was a beautiful romance, with twists and turns. My favorite was its emphasis on being yourself despite societies expectations. I truly believe that is the path to happiness and love. This book has delightful romance, sacrifice, intrigue, and the best of the era patterned writing without being over the top, wordy or predictable. I love that Julianne Donaldson created a clean romantic novel that embraces all that is beautiful and lovely about true love and relationships. Her main characters are memorable, and their choices make me want to be a more romantic spouse. It reminded me that I am...

365 Days of Mickey Sweepstakes by Pixie Vacation

My family loves Disneyland. We would gladly go to Disney World, and the Disney cruises if we had the funds. When I first got sick, it was imperative to me that I take my son and husband to Disneyland and create great family memories. As my sickness has dragged on that wish to create memories has not waned, but our finances have prevented us from returning as regularly as I would love. We were fortunate to be able to take my son on two fabulous vacations to Disneyland, and we have great pictures, memories and family bonds from those visits. To us it truly is the “Happiest Place on Earth”. I would take my family back every year if I could. One day I may even get to take them over my birthday, which is the day after Christmas. I have always wanted to see Disneyland at Christmastime. Their...

So I had Brain Surgery

I believe in miracles. I went to my endocrinologist, and he had a new Physicians Assistant. She had worked for a brilliant neurosurgeon who happens to practice in Las Vegas and treats a condition called Chiari Malformations. She looked at my history, and thought it would be worth a call to her old boss to see if my set of odd symptoms fit into this chiari pattern, which they do. Two days later, I was in front of the neurosurgeon. Two days after that I had the advanced and very technical MRI that showed significant pressure increases in my brain and a congenital brain defect called hypoplastic posterior fossa that put pressure on many parts of my brain and may have had a key role in my pituitary gland failing. At this point, the surgeon, Dr. Seiff, decided that I was a candidate for this surgery. His first question was...

Closed: Win a Toilet Tree Oral Irrigator :)

Our sponsor Toilet Tree Products has offered us a great giveaway for a product that Pittsburgh Frugal Mom has just reviewed. The product is a Toilet Tree Cordless Rechargeable Oral Irrigator. My best friend’s dad has been my dentist for years. I have great teeth, and great oral hygiene. Products like these keep my teeth and gums healthy, and are also great for kids. My son loves anything electronic, and will spend the time to brush his teeth if it is an electronic toothbrush. This would be a great way to get him to floss. This is also a great product for people with braces, retainers and other dental implants as it gets around those hard to reach spots. The Oral Irrigator is perfect, to clean your teeth each day and between meals. The set up is ingenious. The water tank on the Toilet Tree Cordless Rechargeable Oral Irrigator is...

I was lucky enough to receive this kit for review and one of you lucky ducks can win the same thing that I received, A FULL KIT! Because my daughter’s teeth were worse than mine I decided to really give this kit a workout and have her try it.  She’s always complaining about her teeth being gross, so it was a great chance for me to test a great product and her to get whiter teeth!! Parenting Webinar from the InJoy and the Children’s Project

I have recently started a working/collaborative partnership with the group The Children’s Project. They have an awesome book, and their program has built my relationship with my son to a new level. It has also helped me to understand and nurture other relationships. I would highly recommend this webinar, and you can purchase a copy of the book on Amazon. It is an easy read, but packed with great practical advice and examples. I am still working my way through it, as I have to keep stopping to apply the principles and see how they work. So far it has been miraculous. My son has struggled with depression and anxiety, and using the principles taught in the book has really helped him to regain his confidence and happy demeanor. Please feel free to share this information with anyone and everyone. Their goal is to have a million people read the...

Quarantined

I have been under quarantine. My son caught the flu, then got an upper respiratory infection, and then the stomach flu. Lucky me. Then, because I am special, I caught everything he had. Two emergency room visits, several doctor’s appointments, and one Quick Care visit later, and I think (fingers crossed) that we are finally on the mend. My husband is a teacher, and my son goes to school, so no guarantees. My husband calls the students walking petri dishes, but at least we’ve weathered the last of the stomach bug this time around. When I get sick, I sleep a lot. I am lucky and unlucky in that I lack a gag reflex, so nothing will make me puke, but it means that I feel sick a lot longer than I would if I could just get the bug out of my system. So, I sleep. My son, however,...

Getting Myself Organized

I have big plans for this year. I have found that I adore blogging, and have made several great associations that will help me become a better blogger. I also have made some agreements to guest blog at other sites to improve my skills and allow me to focus on topics that I am passionate about. I am super excited to blog daily, and grow my knowledge and abilities this year as a blogger. Step one will be putting together a work station. I need a desk with great lighting. Nora lighting has some great desk lamp options that I love, and I will have to find or build a small desk with lots of cubbies and drawers to hold all my supplies. It should be a fun project. I just have two problems. One I have to stay healthy, and so does my family, which most days is okay,...

Closed: Sauna Giveaway and Healthy Habits

Every year we set the goal to not go to the ER that year. I have failed every year. This year, both my son and I have had to go to the ER, and it is only January. It looks like were in for another exciting year. I learned that the position and size of the back of your skull can cause or influence all kinds of neurodegenerative diseases, like multiple sclerosis, so I get to see a neurosurgeon next week, which should be exciting.?. Enough of the crazy medical that doesn’t even make sense to my doctor’s. If the contents of the above paragraph demonstrate anything it is that a lot of our health concerns are out of our control. However, there are many things we can do, and should do that can make a difference. The flu season is in full force and doctor’s offices, hospitals and ER’s...

Closed: Leather Purse Giveaway

Giveaway done by: Elitemama You know, something about items such as accessories, clothing, household items and so on seem special when they are handmade. It gives me this sense of joy and appreciation because that person took their time to create something special and unique. I do like items that can be purchased in the store, but when it comes to that one particular item that someone made and took their time on it becomes a sentimental item. I came across this company on ETSY that has amazing works of art. Lovejoy Creations hand makes a number of items such as leather wallets, belts, purses, clutches, keepsakes and wedding albums and much more. All of their leather items are handmade, hand-tooled and/or pyrography engraved with wildlife, dogs, pets including horses, cattle or just about any creature they can think of. They also offer custom style designs as well. Here are some images of...

Nature’s Sleep Slippers Review

I am officially a Natures’ Sleep blogger, which makes me all kind of giddy. With a chronic illness I practically live in bed, and so anything that makes that experience better is one that I am anxious to try. This month I had the opportunity to check out their slippers. They have become my new house shoes. I used to walk around barefoot a lot, but it is winter and my feet get cold. I love the open toe design that got to choose, and I enjoy that they are sturdy enough to wear outside to take out the trash or simple things like that, but gentle and warm for my feet. Mine are a pale blue, which is a color that I love, and that matches most of my pajamas. I keep them by the bed, and am developing the habit of slipping them on whenever I get out...

2013 Goals

Rather than overwhelm myself with a years worth of goals, I am going to go month by month, and hold myself accountable via the blog. I divide my goals into categories, and usually like to have a written plan in my planner, and set deadlines, as all the wonderful experts suggest. The good news is that I am very driven and tend to achieve my goals. The bad news is that I often try to do too much. Family – Get  therapy and other interventions in place for Benjamin. Make family time “fun” therapy times. Establish weekly date nights with my husband. Spiritual – Read the Book of Mormon Pray out loud at least once daily. Physical – Exercise daily – I have joined a Dahn yoga studio and need to go everyday. We also have a Disney dance program for the Wii that will be awesome, and I need...

Our Year in Review

In honor of the New Year, I would like to look back at our past year and the many lessons and experiences we have had. Hopefully then I will have a better plan for what I want to keep, and what I want to change this year. I have contemplated this post for days, and have not found a good way to state what has happened, nor an elegant way to explain the many lessons and blessings that we have received. I have also experienced great anxiety about how others may read and possibly judge me and my family. So, my dear readers, please read this with understanding and compassion. We are not perfect. Our family has struggled greatly, and we have endured much that I never thought possible to survive. Fortunately I have, my family is intact, and we are looking forward to a much brighter and happier year...

New Year fun with Gutzy Gear

Gutzy Gear My son was thrilled to be able to share Gutzy Gear with his entire second grade class. Because the class is so large, we had the kids play a few games to earn patches, and when they all had two, they got to trade for patches that they really wanted. It was extremely generous of Gutzy Gear to provide all the materials for each child, and the games. The kids loved trading the patches, and still have them on their backpacks. We did this the first week of school, and then I waited to see if the patches would get lost, wear off, or get old. My son still loves them, and even transferred them to a new backpack when the other backpack wore out. The patches look like new and have not be lost or fallen off by accident. My son is NOT careful with his backpack....

Starlooks Starbox – December

December’s Starbox is a glamorous array of eye shadows valued over $99. It is difficult for me to make use of such a luxurious commodity. As always I am pleased by the wide variety and yet universality of this palette. It has accent colors that I may never be brave enough to try, and then more neutral colors that I can’t wait to show off at our next holiday event. However, I think this particular Starbox will become a gift for a very special someone who will know how to use it to its’ utmost potential, as most of the variety and usability would be lost on a homebody like me. I am going to keep the name secret, but I am certain that the gift will be well-loved and used. I also am perfectly happy to share my collection as the previous looks have all provided me with everything...

Birthdays and Giveaways

Today was my son’s birthday party. We played with Legos. It was the easiest party ever. Legos, cake, and presents. They all had a blast and my son is overjoyed with all his new Lego sets. His Aspergers makes him obsessed with Legos, so today was his favorite day ever. He even got to go to Target and pick out some thanks to gift cards from friends. He was so excited he couldn’t stop jumping up and down this morning and now he is exhausted. I don’t want to fail to mention the tragedy in Connecticut, but it is so sad, that I don’t have words. My husband teaches at an elementary school. The fact that the world is becoming more and more dangerous terrifies me, yet somehow I still have faith that most people are good, there is a life after this, a God who looks after us, and...

Gogobot Review

My husband and I went on our honeymoon to San Francisco. We would love to go there again for our 10th anniversary this year. So when I learned about gogobot I was anxious to see what new things a romantic trip for two might have to offer. We may also decide to bring our son so he can have the opportunity to see the areas near where his Dad grew up and where we were first a married couple. San Francisco has amazing museums and gardens that he would adore. Either way, it is a dream trip, and one that we will eventually take. I would definitely stay at the Palace Hotel. It is a gorgeous hotel with amazing gardens, beautiful rooms, and great reviews. According to reviewers, it has a heated pool on the 4th floor, which we would love to use, High Tea at noon every day, and...

November Starlooks Review

I got the beautiful Starlooks box in the mail earlier this month, but due to family drama forgot about it completely. This collection was a set of personalized, neutral eye colors that will look great for all my upcoming holiday events. There is also a fun tool to help prevent smearing of eye make-up and mascara that I have yet to master, but love the concept. I am terrible at putting mascara on. The final addition is a lovely gloss lipstick. I am not a lipstick person. I can never find the right shade, but Starlooks has consistently sent me shades that I love and will wear out. I have a birthday coming up, and we go on a date to a movie and dinner. These items will definitely be on my list to wear. Starlooks is also having a fabulous promotion for a few more days for their December...

Beautiful Sorrows Book Review

Beautiful Sorrows is a collection of short horror stories written by my great friend Mercedes Yardley. Like her stories she is a bit of a contradiction. She has three adorable children. Her oldest has special needs, and she is a warrior parent in championing him and getting him all the help he requires, but is also the most compassionate and giving mother that I have ever met. She is known to write with bunny ears on so her kids know to let her type. She can run in 3 inch heels to chase down her kiddos, but she is defined by her writing, her parenting and so many other things that it is very difficult to pin down one word to describe her. Her writing is the same. It is horror, but it is whimsical and different. She doesn’t have blood, guts and gore. Rather her books express human heartache...

Dreams

Most children have many roles and things that they want to be when they grow up. I was unique in that mine never changed. I had contingency plans, but all I ever dreamed of and wanted was to have 12 kids and live on a farm. My favorite books are and were Cheaper By The Dozen,  and Joe’s Boys. When I met my husband I made it clear that no matter the sacrifice I wasn’t going to work. I would be home with our children and we would have as many as possible. I love cooking, baking, sewing, cleaning, playing with and teaching children, and I love everything about being a mother. Before our son was born, I lost to pregnancies to miscarriage. I was devastated. It was early, but my desire to be a mother was so strong that losing even one precious child took a piece of my...

October 2012 Starbox Review

We loved the October Starbox. It came with a great gold eyeliner that I used to make the Harry Potter scar for my son’s Halloween costume, and will be using as a regular addition to my make-up. I also enjoyed the lipstick. It turns out it is the perfect shade of red for me, and I never wear red lipstick because I haven’t been able to find one I liked. They had eye tatoos which I am too chicken to use this year, but hope to use next year, and a glorious purple eye dust that I can’t wait to try some fun day. Starbox is offering their December box for only $15, and it is a $99 value. It will contain a great fifteen shade pro eye shadow palette! I love eye Shadow, and hope to get this one too. You can order it at www.starlooks.com As always, Starlooks...

When Did I Become a Blubbering Mess – Warning, this is not a happy post.

It has been three weeks since my son has been diagnosed with Aspergers, OCD, and ADHD. I cry all the time. He is so angry, and so sad, and I don’t know how to help him. I also lack perspective. I worked with autistic kids, and studied them. It was academic. Now it is real. I know the challenges he will face, the struggles we will have. I know how to teach him, and that I will forever be the mean mother. My perfect baby who was going to have the healthy, happy life that I can’t now has to struggle. I did not want this for him. People keep suggesting I watch the t.v. show Parenthood. Today I watched the pilot and sobbed all the way through. The little boy is about the same age as mine, and has the same symptoms and problems. My son is a little...

Newman’s Own Organics Giveaway and Review

Newman’s Own Organics is the organic sister company of Newman’s Own. I have loved Newman’s Own products for quite a while, and was delighted to try Newman’s Own Organics. The company is delightful to work with. Their representatives are friendly and super helpful, and they knew which products my gluten free family could enjoy. We got a huge box of products, and they have promised to send my readers their own huge box to test and rave about, as I am sure you will. We loved their selection of dried fruits and prefer them over many of our traditional buys. Their craisins were sweet, but not sugary. We enjoyed a fancy selection of chocolates, that my dairy allergic husband couldn’t even resist, and their popcorn was downed by my son. We also got to test out their olive oil, some great mints (we like the tinned variety best), and organic...

Life Can Be Hard

I have been avoiding the internet, blogging, and all things online for the past week or so. I have touched in with facebook, and occasionally made sure I didn’t have any important e-mails pending, but mostly I have gone off the grid. I have also been hiding in my room. Here is why: my son was just diagnosed with Apergers, OCD, ADHD, ODD, a mood disorder, social phobia, and sensory processing disorders. He may also have an eating disorder. In the last week, I have seen what it is like for a child to loose control and rage without remembering the incident, or even knowing why. I have watched my son struggle to understand why he has to take new medications everyday and what the name/label of Aspergers means. I have learned that I am not alone amongst even my neighbors in dealing with this disorder, and I have cried...

Zevia Flash Giveaway

I had the fun chance to review Zevia Soda’s. They are super sweet, but contain no sugar. I used the diet, caffeine free cola to make a chocolate cake, and it turned out fantastic. My husband said that the cake tasted better than my regular efforts. We eat a gluten free diet, so the cake was a Betty Crocker cake mix. I just mixed the mix with a whole can of soda and baked according to the directions, and it turned out great! The soda’s were too sweet for me, as I prefer sour sodas, but we enjoyed trying a new, sugar free, gluten free option. Win a Frecklebox – Personalized Gifts for Kids

What child doesn’t love stickers or books with THEIR name on them? I know I coveted them when I was a child. Sadly, when I was a child, there was nothing with my name on it. Come to think of it, there still is nothing available, right off the rack, with my name on it. Liberty. Not enough Liberty’s out there to necessitate the mass production of pencils or bike name plates with our name on them. And oh, how I would look through each section of personalized gifts for kids. Maybe, hidden behind all the Amandas and Tommys, maybe their was a lonely Liberty, waiting just for me. There never was. Somehow, I didn’t make it any easier on any of my own children. While they all have names that are not exactly uncommon, I did spell them in more unique ways. At least I did with my girls’...

Struggling to Parent, or Parenting a Struggling Child?

Today I got a phone call that I never expected to receive. The basic suggestion behind the call is maybe our program is not the right fit for your child. He is disruptive, and we don’t know how to handle him. He’s been in this program for years. His behavior has not changed, but perhaps it should have, as he has gotten older. They had other teachers who dealt with his behavior wonderfully and he was thriving. Why is this year so different? What happened? Could it be that I spent most of last year in the hospital with a life threatening and life altering condition? Could it be that he is a scared little boy trying to cope with things that he doesn’t understand? Does my child have ADHD, or even worse, does he have Asperger’s syndrome? Sadly the questions that run through my mind are mostly is this...

Clipa Review and Giveaway

“HANDBAGS ARE LIKE ACCESSORIES, ONLY THE PRINT CHANGES” ~ Sara Rupiper Running around with my kids to sporting events, concerts, shows, and dinners means that I always have to have a handbag/purse by my side. My handbag is my saving grace it has everything from safety pins to snacks. My bags are constantly on the go and they take a constant weathering as they are set down everywhere. One thing I am very particular about as are many ladies is my handbag of choice! I purchase brand name bags because this is the one thing I like to treat myself to. What I do not like is setting my bag on the floor of a restaurant where people have spilled or do spill or there are possibility of those tiny ants marching across the floor into my bag! I do not like putting my hand bag on the floor while...
